Very saddened the learn of the passing of veteran Vancouver broadcaster and all around great guy John Ashbridge. Not just the voice of the Vancouver Canucks– the arena announcer for decades at Canucks games– John was also a colleague and a friend. He was a co-worker for 19 years. He wasn’t just a consummate broadcaster, he had keen sense of humour and cutting dry wit. John was a pleasure to be around. And I am so thankful I got to catch up and hoist a beer with him in April. I knew he was sick, but he was in excellent spirits and was enjoying his retirment. He looked good, he was upbeat and optimistic about his treatment as he battled cancer. I really thought he’d have a little more time.
John was positive, genuine, gifted and kind. A true professional and a gentleman. His voice was so well known and iconic people would often ask him if they would mind doing the voice message on their cell phone. He always said yes. All the best to his wife Yvonne and family. We’ll miss you John, and thanks for the memories
